Dr Oliver Seyfried

Clinical practice

Dr Seyfried’s work focuses on careful diagnosis and proportionate treatment. His particular interests include sciatica and lumbar radicular pain, mechanical and degenerative spinal pain, and neuropathic pain affecting the arm or leg.

His approach is biopsychosocial: physical findings are considered alongside the effects of pain on movement, sleep, mood, work and everyday life. Where an intervention may be helpful, it is considered as one part of a broader treatment plan.

Training and appointments

Dr Seyfried qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1999. He trained in anaesthesia at St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London and St Thomas’ Hospitals, and in Pain Medicine at St Thomas’, King’s College and St George’s Hospitals.

He gained his anaesthetic CCT in 2012 and was appointed Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at St George’s Hospital in 2013, where he is Departmental Lead for Anaesthesia.

He sees private patients at Welbeck, Fortius Clinic and The Lister Hospital in Chelsea.

Appointments, fees and insurance

New consultations are £275 and follow-up consultations are £175. Dr Seyfried is fee approved by all major UK private medical insurers. Patients should confirm their individual benefits and obtain any required authorisation before treatment.

Publications and teaching

Dr Seyfried has published in peer-reviewed literature on back pain, pharmacotherapy and multidisciplinary pain management. His review “Opioids and endocrine dysfunction” received the Faculty of Pain Medicine’s 2013 Trainee Publication Prize. He also contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
